My 1st Miami Art Week/Art Basel is a wrap!

I had an amazing time and beyond grateful to have attended. As I continue my art journey, I attended to ⬇️

An associate mentioned how 2️⃣ of the VIPs amongst us “really like me”. These people are a wealth of knowledge and can open MANY 🚪.

I’ve followed up the people I want to stay connected with.

I prefer to travel alone. With this group, it felt awkward when I did dip off. Just means I was amongst good people.

Art Basel is actually the main event during Miami Art Week.

As they say “membership has privileges”. Traveling with the nation's best art museum, the Detroit Institute of the Arts (DIA), USA TODAY, 2 years in a row and receiver of the highest rating of three stars in Michelin's first-ever Detroit Green Guide and its Friends of African American and African Art (FAAAA) certainly does. We were afforded early access, preview access, private access and of course, VIP access to the events we attended. We met directors of museums, Art Basel, who is from The D(etroit), gallerists and artists. We even acquired a piece of art.

I rocked a vest with a patch that read “I have people in Detroit”. This resonated with soooo many. Er’body is from and/or “got people” in The D.

After the Design stop, we went back to Basel to eat. It was after 5p. I had to decide between the Miami Design District to show a Detroit artist love or Scope which was on the othe side. I chose Scope because it wasn’t closing soon and I could take a water taxi. By the time I made it across Biscayne Bay, it was too late. I headed to the fish fry in Little Haiti instead.

Yes, that’s Detroit Bad Boy, John Salley!
