After the murder of George Floyd, Lola T. Small, a Taiwanese Canadian wife to a Black man who along with her husband took their then four-year-old son to protest the injustice. Being compelled to act with “energy and intention” and wanting to teach her son to rise and “operate from being a changemaker”, Lola “had to do something” thus Black Lives Rising was birthed. This week’s Guest is… Lola Small is a Taiwanese Canadian women’s empowerment coach, two-time international bestselling and award-winning author, and social activist. With over 25 years of combined experience in teacher training, curriculum design, mind-body fitness education, athletic event management, and empowerment coaching, Lola is passionate about supporting girls and women to share their dreams and impact with the world. A graduate from University of British Columbia in Psychology, she is certified in life coaching, health & wellness coaching, and personal training. Lola teaches powerhouse women in business through FemCity, and is the co-founder of Black Lives Rising Media with her husband a social enterprise with education and empowerment programs to enrich the Black community for positive growth and global equity. Through initiatives such as Room to Read, World Pulse, FemCity, and now Black Lives Rising, Lola’s work spans from Canada to the US, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Her books For My Girls, Fitness to Freedom, and Women Let's Rise are available, and her next book project “We Rise in Power: Amplifying Women of Color and Her Voices for Change” releases Summer 2022.
